Case study: Market entry study - Papua New Guinea
The challenge
A mid-sized European energy company needed to step outside its immediate
comfort zone of north-west Europe in order to find new, but politically stable,
operating environments in which it could replace its reserves. Amongst the
short-listed countries was Papua New Guinea (PNG) which is as far removed from
the
client's home base, both geographically and culturally, as it was possible to
be.
The Menas solution
Each client is unique and have totally different requirements which, we
believe, makes a multi-client report of very limited use. Some companies have a
standard template for all of their market entry studies while others understand
that a
"one size fits all" approach is of little use. We therefore encourage
our clients to produce a detailed draft table of contents for the report that
they are expecting plus an indication of the approximate length of report that
they need. We might suggest additional country-specific issues which we feel
need
to be covered by the report. this enables us to tailor the electronic report to
the client's specific requirements and expectations.
The result
Using one of the very best leading experts on PNG, who has worked for us on
an
ad hoc basis for more than twenty years, we produced an excellent 20 page
report
which was precisely tailored to the client['s specific requirements. At the
same
time the client's identity remained entirely confidential as we operated as
"Chinese walls" between the client and the PNG-based expert. The
report -
which is one of the client's building blocks in understanding the above-ground
non-technical risks that it is likely to encounter in a strange and new
operating
environment - can often be enhanced by a presentation at company HQ.
